Warmer days in New York City are finally here! As the weather heats up, so do our agendas: rooftop parties, weddings, outdoor get-togethers and days at the beach get quickly penciled in. We’re ready to rock our summer outfits and enjoy being out and about in our wonderful city. But as you know, summer doesn’t come without the inevitable humidity which can cramp our hairstyles, leaving it frizzy and unmanageable. That’s why now is the perfect time to prep your hair for the fun months ahead by getting a Cezanne Smoothing Treatment.

We recommend the Cezanne treatment at Scott J. for its low maintenance, frizz-reducing benefits. It’s safe for your hair and can be done on just about anyone (especially our curly- haired guests). Hailing from the Upper West Side, our stylist Kristen Glynn, an expert on this service, dishes the details on why this is THE treatment you need to have great hair during #summerinthecity.

  1. Why should you get a Cezanne Smoothing Treatment?

It is important to understand this is NOT a straightening treatment. It can loosen your curls but your hair won’t be pin-straight or limp. Think of it more like a smoothing and strengthening treatment. It will greatly reduce your frizz and help maintain your blow-dry despite humidity. It also reduces your blow-drying time.

  1. What is the process of getting a Cezanne Smoothing Treatment like?

First you will get two detoxifying shampoos to prep your hair. Then, your hair will be rough-dried. Once completely dry, the Cezanne solution is applied and it processes for 30 minutes. It is then rinsed and blown straight. Once dry, your hair is flat ironed section by section to lock in the Cezanne. The process is approximately two hours, but time does vary based on hair length, density and texture.

  1. What is the maintenance like—especially in the summer when you’re in the pool or at the beach?

One word for maintenance—LOW! Use a sulfate-free shampoo. The more frequently you wash your hair the faster the Cezanne will dissipate. So keep that in mind when swimming and washing your locks.

  1. How is this different from a chemical relaxer?

A chemical relaxer breaks down the bonds in the hair, weakening it so that it will “relax.” The Cezanne actually ADDS keratin, the protein your hair is made up of, strengthening it against damage and repairing it, while smoothing.

  1. Is it safe?

It is 100% safe and truly formaldehyde-free!!

  1. Who is it best for / who is it not best for?

The more frizzy your hair is the greater the result will be!! Also if your hair is super damaged this will help tremendously.

  1. How long do the effects last?

We say 3-5 months but with my clients who wash their hair infrequently, one time per week, I have seen results last for 6 months. Also, the damage your hair would normally be incurring during those months is reduced because of the treatment on your hair.

  1. Can you get color or other chemical processes after having a Cezanne treatment?

Yes. If you’re getting highlights we will do that before the Cezanne treatment. Anything else can be done directly after.
