For our 15th year of involvement in New York Fashion Week, the Scott J NYFW Team was thrilled to style the male models for NAMM New York’s luxury ready-to-wear line. Their killer collection, Yi, featured men’s high-end urban streetwear, shown appropriately enough at the amazing Broome Street Loft. The models’ style needed to be clean and classic with a strong contemporary edge, to complement the movable, but structured garments and clean lines of the Yi collection.

As you can see, the runway models reflected the landscape of NYC with different ethnicities, skin tones and hair textures. These are great-looking guys to begin with, but let’s face it — looking this level of gorgeous AND put-together doesn’t just happen by itself. We want to give you a peek behind the scenes to show you the range of high-performance Aveda products the Scott J Style Team used to produce the same type of look for such a diverse crew of guys.
We used Pure-Formance Liquid Pomade on models with more fine hair, to give weightless texture, control frizz and smooth flyaways without looking greasy.
Pure-Formance Grooming Cream was our go-to for thick, medium-coarse hair to combat dryness, add shine and keep everything in place.
For a polished hold with impeccable shine, we turned to Pure-Formance Pomade and finished off with Firmata Firm Hold Hair Spray.
The models with very thick, longer hair needed extra strong hold, so we used Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray.
Pro tip: for a more natural look, spray hair spray on a comb, brush or your fingers and then apply to hair.
The models’ skin all had to be healthy looking with an even tone. We turned to All-Sensitive Moisturizer post-shaving, to provide gentle conditioning to keep dryness at bay without looking shiny or triggering breakouts. A spritz of Botanical Kinetics Toning Mist “woke” their skin up and kept it looking fresh and bright — just like the designs they were modeling!
