Scott began his career in the beauty industry as an apprentice in a Long Island salon. Today, he is the owner of three Aveda salonspas:
  • Scott J. / Aveda, Columbus: a 2,800 square foot Aveda lifestyle salon and spa on New York's fashionable Columbus Avenue
  • Scott J. / Aveda, Broadway: an active, high-end, full service Aveda concept salon near Columbia University
  • Scott J. / Aveda, East 86th Street: a 2,500 square foot Aveda lifestyle salon and spa in Manahattan's Upper East Side

Personally, Scott has inspired dozens of editorial mentions and has created daytime television show makeovers on The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Ricki Lake Show, among others. His career has been punctuated with many distinctions and awards from Aveda, including a position as an Aveda platform artist and the highly regarded Aveda Achievement Award.

Scott's road to success began in 1980, while working under the tutelage of Michael Mazzei, owner of Nubest & Co. Salon in Manhasset, NY. After 10 years, Scott moved to New York City where, within a year, the vision of owning his own salon began. His first venture was an intimate 400 square foot, five-chair salon on Columbus Avenue.

By his first anniversary, Scott had outgrown the original space. Fortunately, another space became available. Scott and his staff, which had doubled in the first year, moved into a 750 square foot salon. Eight years and thousands of guests later, Scott's ultimate dream to expand into a true urban oasis became a reality, with the opening of his 2,800 square foot salonspa at the corner of Columbus Avenue and 72nd street, a prime location on the Upper West Side.

Scott J. growth has steadily continued, with the addition of Scott's Broadway and Upper East Side locations, making it easier for Scott J. to satisfy the needs of an ever-growing client base. It also became easier for Scott to offer professional growth to his 200+ employees.

Scott has been a longtime supporter of myriad charities within and outside of his community. His salons have been active in programs that help preserve the rainforest and raise funds for AIDS. The salonspas also donate gift baskets and gift certificates to several local schools and hospitals, most recently becoming involved with a program for cancer patients through Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital.
